The announcement of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s resignation has elicited a wave of praise from European leaders, resulting in the postponement of the anticipated EU-UK summit. Ursula von der Leyen commended Starmer for his efforts in bolstering European and Ukrainian security, highlighting his leadership in fostering improved cooperation.

António Costa, the President of the European Council, expressed hope that Starmer’s successor would continue the work of rebuilding and strengthening the ties between the EU and the UK. Originally set for July 22, the EU-UK summit aimed to address key issues such as trade agreements, youth mobility, and collaboration on climate policies. Despite the political upheaval in Britain, officials remain committed to advancing relations between the EU and the UK.
