Salah Closes His Liverpool Chapter: “This Club Will Always Be My Home”

Date:

One of the most celebrated footballers of the modern era said goodbye this week. Mohamed Salah confirmed that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the current season, a decision reached jointly with the club and one that marks the close of nine unforgettable years on Merseyside. The Egyptian will depart as a free agent despite having 12 months left on a deal worth around £500,000 per week, an arrangement that made financial sense for both sides.

Salah joined Liverpool from Roma for £34 million in 2017 and proceeded to write himself into the very fabric of the club’s history. With 255 goals in 435 appearances, he stands as the club’s third-highest scorer of all time — a staggering return for a player who arrived with enormous potential but whose eventual impact surpassed even the boldest predictions. He won trophies, broke records, and changed the way defenders throughout the Premier League had to think about their positioning.

His farewell video, posted on social media, was striking in its sincerity. Salah spoke openly about the bond he had developed with the city and its people, acknowledging that he had not anticipated the depth of his emotional attachment to Liverpool. He expressed heartfelt thanks to teammates and supporters alike, and he closed his message with words borrowed directly from the anthem that has defined generations of Liverpool supporters, promising that he will never truly walk alone.

This season has been testing. The public confrontation with Arne Slot in December — in which Salah described their working relationship as essentially non-existent and accused the club of making him a convenient scapegoat — was a defining moment of the campaign. Temporarily removed from the Champions League squad, there was genuine uncertainty about how the relationship between player and club would recover. It did, and Salah rewarded the support of the fans with a series of fine performances, including the historic goal that made him Africa’s Champions League top scorer.

With the future still uncertain, clubs across Europe and the Middle East are expected to move quickly once the season ends. Salah’s agent has been careful not to indicate any preference, maintaining that no decision has been made. Liverpool supporters, meanwhile, will spend the remaining weeks of the season savouring every moment they have left with one of the greatest players ever to wear the club’s famous red shirt.
